Ogun Court Remands Woman for Scalding Teenage Niece

An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ijebu Imushin has remanded a 45-year-old woman, Taiwo Adeoye, at the Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre for allegedly pouring hot water on her 13-year-old niece, Modinat Adeoye, causing severe injuries.

The court ordered her remand pending the perfection of bail set at N3 million.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

According to him, the incident occurred on April 13, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m. at No. 13 Odomogun Area, Imusin, and was promptly reported to the police.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly poured hot water on the victim, who is her niece and resides with her, resulting in severe burns across parts of the victim’s body,” Babaseyi said.

He added that detectives swiftly responded to the report, rescued the victim, and ensured her immediate transfer to a medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment.

The police further alleged that the suspect attacked the teenager over accusations that she was “following men around.”

Babaseyi noted that the suspect was subsequently arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Ijebu Imushin and remanded at the correctional facility pending the fulfilment of her bail conditions.

The command condemned all forms of violence and abuse against children, reiterating its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society.
