The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected criminals involved in armed robbery and a deadly land dispute that turned violent in different parts of the state.
The suspects were paraded on Monday at the command headquarters by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Felix Ohagwu, who disclosed that dangerous weapons were recovered from them.
Three of the suspects — Promise Daniel (34), Ifeanyi Umahi (29), and Adaramoye Abayomi (37) — were arrested in connection with an armed robbery reported on June 14, 2026, at Iju Division in Ita-Ogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area.
“Following a painstaking intelligence-led operation by operatives of the command, the arrest was made… Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, the operatives intercepted the suspects while they were travelling in a Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV (ash colour),” Ohagwu said.
He added that preliminary investigations revealed the trio as members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate on the command’s watchlist for violent robberies across Ondo State. “During interrogation, the suspects made useful confessional statements regarding the ownership of the recovered weapons and other criminal activities.”
“The information provided is currently assisting investigators in tracking down other fleeing members of the gang and uncovering the full extent of their operations,” the CP further stated.
According to the Punch, the remaining seven suspects were arrested following a violent confrontation over a land dispute at Kajola area in Odigbo Local Government on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
According to Ohagwu, the clash occurred around 9:30 a.m. at a farmland in Adegbiji, involving Akinsulu Titus and Ajani Abiodun — parties to an ongoing land matter before the High Court in Ore. Both men arrived with groups of supporters, including commercial motorcycle riders and three alleged soldiers who are still at large.
“The disagreement reportedly stemmed from allegations of the destruction of palm trees and other economic crops before it degenerated into a violent confrontation during which both principal parties sustained varying degrees of injuries and their clothing was torn,” the police boss explained.
Weapons recovered from the suspects include guns, charms, cutlasses, and acid. All 10 suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The arrests underscore ongoing efforts by the Ondo State Police Command to tackle robbery and communal violence in the region.
