Suspected terrorists ambushed troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, killing one soldier and injuring another.
The incident occurred around 12:53 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2026, along the SPDC–Etekuru road. Troops had been deployed to assess a burnt Hilux vehicle when they came under heavy gunfire upon arrival, triggering a fierce gun battle with the assailants.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the attack on his X platform, reported that the attackers made away with two AK-47 rifles and partially damaged a military vehicle. Reinforcements were quickly deployed, forcing the assailants to retreat.
Further search of the scene revealed two burnt vehicles and the bodies of two individuals, which were evacuated to a hospital morgue for identification and investigation.
The Nigerian Army is yet to issue an official statement on the ambush as operations continue in the area.
