Police Arrest 11 More Suspects Over Delta Festival Assault

The Delta State Government has announced the arrest of 11 additional suspects in connection with the sexual assault of women during the recently held Ozoro festival.

The development was disclosed in a statement shared on Saturday, March 21, 2026, via the government’s official X handle.

According to the statement, ongoing police investigations into the incidents in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, have recorded significant progress.

“Police investigations into the disturbing incidents in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, have recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of eleven additional suspects.

“Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, the CP Special Assignment Team carried out a detailed investigation, analysing video evidence and intelligence.

“This led to the arrest of suspects, including Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, Evidence Oguname, and six others,” the statement read.

The state government emphasised that the acts were perpetrated by criminal elements who exploited the festival to carry out sexual violence, stressing that such behaviour does not reflect any legitimate cultural practice.

Authorities also reiterated the police command’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved are identified and prosecuted.

Victims and witnesses have been urged to come forward with useful information, with assurances that their identities will be protected.

Earlier reports indicated that the Delta State Police Command had arrested five individuals, including the community head and chief organiser of the Ozoro festival, in connection with the alleged assault during the annual event.
