Police Foil Truck Hijacking, Recover Fabricated Rifle in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a truck hijacking operation, recovered a stolen DAF truck loaded with motor spare parts, and seized a locally fabricated wooden rifle used by the suspects.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Oke-Ado area in Ijebu North when suspected hoodlums intercepted the truck driver and forcefully took control of the vehicle.

Detectives from the Ijebu Imushin Division, acting on credible information and in collaboration with highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilized to the scene. Their prompt response forced the hijackers to abandon the truck and flee.

In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that a thorough search of the recovered truck led to the discovery of the fabricated rifle.

“A wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, used by the suspects in the operation,” was recovered.

Babaseyi praised the officers’ efficiency:

“The prompt intervention of the police effectively thwarted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of property.”

The driver sustained a minor injury to his right ankle during the hijack attempt. He received immediate first aid treatment at the scene.

“Operatives are actively tracking the fleeing suspects with a view to their swift arrest and prosecution,” the police spokesperson added.

The Ogun State Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, while reiterating its commitment to the safety of road users and residents in the state.
