A 17-year-old boy, Ishaku Idriss, has died after sustaining injuries during a violent clash among youths at a wedding ceremony in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The incident occurred on March 31, 2026, at about 1:00 pm, according to a counterinsurgency commentator, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the details on Tuesday.
The clash reportedly involved youths from Dagare and Yabel villages and escalated into a physical confrontation. Sources indicated that the violence began after a 16-year-old boy, Adamu Suleh, allegedly struck Idriss with a stick following an instigation involving one Shuaibu Yusuf.
During the altercation, the victim was said to have retaliated, leading to further violence. In the course of the fight, another boy, Usman Inusa, 14, allegedly hit Idriss on the head with a stick, causing him to collapse.
Idriss was initially rushed to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum before being referred to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu, where he was confirmed dead at about 4:00 am on April 4, 2026.
The case was reported to the Potiskum Police Division by the village head of Jumma’a Bogocho, Ahmadu Yusuf. Police authorities confirmed that suspects linked to the incident have been arrested, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the clash.
Efforts to reach the Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, were unsuccessful as he had yet to respond to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.
In a related development, a 25-year-old student of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, Seyi Simon, was recently killed after being stabbed during a dispute with another student. The incident occurred at about 1:40 am during a Freshers’ Fair celebration inside a school hall.
Confirming the case, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said the matter was reported at the A Division Police Station in Kontagora, and investigations are ongoing.
