The Dakkada Skill Acquisition Center (DASAC) in Ikot Ada Idem community Akwa Ibom state, has been directed to administer computer-based exams to the new students who seek for admission.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, gave the directive when he performed the inauguration of a seven-member Governing Council for the DASAC at Government House, Uyo.
He said as part of his commitment to the ARISE agenda the inauguration signal the formal opening of the Centre with the commencement of all academic activities.
The DASAC an affiliate of the University of Lagos, has “what it takes to become a University of Technology,” says the Governor.
For instance, the Governing council members include Obong Churchill Udoh as Chairman, Prof. Enoidem Usoro as Rector, and Mr. Aniedi-Abasi Udofia as Registrar.
Other members are the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet; Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Mr. Aniefiok Nkom; and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor.
Again, Pastor Eno has announced government’s sponsorship of 155 students for the take-off of school.
“Government will sponsor five students from each LGA as pioneer studentship to provide the first set of students we want to work with,” he said.
“So you have to set forth your best efforts in setting computer-based exams for them.”
“Moreso you will administer computer-based exams and allow the students to take the exams, and pass.”
He expressed optimism that by doing so, in each local government, they will find the number that they want to become students in the school.
“Those should be your first intakes. For everything we want to do now, we want to be very transparent.”
He emphasized on “tremendous experience” of the inaugurated Governing Council members.
He said each of them has come with tremendous experience, particularly her recent publications.
Also, he said she has been chosen on merit, and they expect her to take charge and put together a great team to lay a solid foundation for the Centre.
“We have no doubt that everything that we have in that Centre, working with the University of Lagos, we have what it takes to become a University of Technology.”
“That’s why you have been selected,” he explained.
“Together, we are dedicated to advancing skill development and empowering our people for a brighter future.”
Meanwhile, he has also warned that the government will hold Governing Council responsible for the success or failure of the centre.
In addition, the Governor said that the center will only receive government subvention for a period of one year, after which it should be able to sustain itself.
Also, Truth Live News learned that Prof. Sunday Adebisi led a delegation from the University of Lagos where the Center is affiliated to the inauguration.
Prof. Adebisi applauded Governor Eno for his leadership style and commitment to the growth and development of his people.
He assured him of the necessary support for the center to grow and achieve its purpose of training world-class entrepreneurs.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Mr Ekerete Udoh in a Facebook post said the Center has state-of-the-art equipment to teach agribusiness, civil technologies; fashion and lifestyle business, sports, among others.
The Chairman of the Governing board, Obong Churchill Udoh who spoke on behalf of the team appreciated the Governor for the confidence reposed in them.
He pledged to put forth their best efforts for the center to succeed.
On her part, the Rector, Professor Enoidem Usoro, commended the Governor for finding her worthy to serve.
She said they are prepared to overcome any challenges and to ensure that their responsibilities are effectively carried out in the interest of the people.
The Centre is located at Ikot Ada-Idem, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
