Dilapidation Hit House of Assembly Complex, A’Ibom Gov. Sets To Give Facelift

Akwa Ibom state Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, said he has been pressed by the leadership of the state assembly for the renovation of their facility, and in his usual way, he has to see things for himself before taking steps.

The Governor stated this while undertaking a facility tour of the Assembly Complex, located along Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.

He said the tour was to ascertain the extent of disrepair and the need for upgrades to expected standards for such an edifice.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Mr Ekerete Udoh in a social media post said the visit was also In furtherance of his administration’s asset management and public safety drive.

He said the Akwa Ibom State Governor, has moved to give a facelift to the State House of Assembly Complex.

Moreso, his visit was to honor the invitation by the leadership of the Assembly to inspect the complex with a view to fix the dilapidation.

According to him, the Governor said “You have been pressing for the renovation of this facility, and in my usual way, I have to see things for myself, firsthand.”

In addition, “As you are aware, we now have an Asset and Infrastructure Management Agency.”

Therefore, “their job basically is to ensure that government assets are preserved and maintained.”

By so doing “They will be working with you. So I believe that this renovation will take into consideration all of the safety issues.”

For instance, In that agency is a Health and Environmental Safety directorate. We see that there are no safety gadgets in case anything happens.”

Also, “The bills you have passed all dovetail to the welfare of our people, and I’m glad to be here for this very brief visit.”

“I want to thank you for coming out to receive us despite being on vacation. We don’t take this for granted.”

Therefore, “We’ll continue to work collaboratively with all arms of government to give the dividends of democracy to our people.”

Additionally, he proposed a statewide ambulance service to complement the State Government’s drive in the health sector.

He also gave approval of recruitment of 400 healthcare workers in addition to the recent approval for 100 safety and health emergency personnel.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Udeme Otong, has resolved to reciprocate the Governor’s gesture.

He said he will do that through the ARISE Agenda of the Governor Umo Eno-led administration.

He further appreciated the Governor for honoring his invitation and expressed the delight of the legislators over the visit.

He described the visit as an unprecedented expression of goodwill by the Governor towards the Legislature.
