GUSAU, ZAMFARA – The Federal Government has commissioned the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) Automotive Training Centre in Gusau, Zamfara State, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base through technical skills development, innovation and local capacity building.
The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, disclosed this in a statement shared on his social media handle, describing the facility as a major step toward developing a skilled workforce capable of competing in the evolving global automotive industry.
Enoh said the centre was established to provide practical training opportunities for young Nigerians while supporting entrepreneurship, technology transfer and the growth of local manufacturing.
He noted that the facility was more than a physical structure, describing it as an investment in the nation’s youth and a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to creating sustainable opportunities through technical education.
“This facility is far more than a building. It is an investment in our young people and a practical demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to creating opportunities through technical education, entrepreneurship and local capacity development,” Enoh stated.
The Minister explained that the rapid transformation of the automotive sector, particularly with the emergence of electric vehicles (EVs), compressed natural gas (CNG) systems and advanced diagnostic technologies, makes it necessary for Nigeria to prepare a workforce equipped with modern skills.
“As the automotive industry continues to evolve with new technologies, including electric vehicles, compressed natural gas (CNG) systems and advanced diagnostics, Nigeria must prepare a workforce that is ready to compete and lead,” he said.
According to him, the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment remains committed to policies that promote local content, encourage technology transfer, support manufacturing and create sustainable jobs for Nigerians.
He said initiatives under the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan are aimed at building a globally competitive automotive ecosystem and promoting Made-in-Nigeria products.
“The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment remains committed to implementing policies that deepen local content, encourage technology transfer, support manufacturing and create sustainable jobs,” Enoh added.
The commissioning of the Gusau automotive centre, according to the Minister, represents another milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to expand industrial capacity and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the automotive sector.
Enoh commended the Zamfara State Government, the leadership of the National Automotive Design and Development Council under Otunba Oluwemimo Osanipin, and other stakeholders whose collaboration contributed to the completion of the project.
He expressed optimism that the facility would help develop a new generation of automotive technicians, entrepreneurs and innovators capable of contributing to Nigeria’s industrial growth.
Truth Live News learned that the project is expected to support skills acquisition, boost local manufacturing, promote innovation and provide young Nigerians with opportunities to participate in the future of mobility technology.
