…..As Institution Churns Out 1,485 Nurses In 7 Years

In order to boost healthcare delivery in Yobe State, the Governor of the state, Mai Mala Buni, announced an automatic employment for 416 graduating nurses of the state College of Nursing and Midwifery.
The governor made the announcement at the graduation ceremony of the state-owned Shehu Sule College of Nursing Sciences Damaturu, the Capital.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana said the approval of automatic employment for the fresh graduating nurses was given to enhancing and strengthen healthcare service delivery in the state.
“This gesture aligns with our sustained investment in the health sector and our commitment to bridging manpower gaps in our healthcare facilities,” he declared.
He said the 416 beneficiaries include 158 Community Nurses, 196 Basic Nurses and Midwives, and 62 Higher National Diploma Nursing graduates.
The governor explained that the decision is part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to address workforce shortages and improve access to quality healthcare services and delivery in the state.
He also said the state government has consistently supported the college over the past seven years had yielded positive results, especially in the training of qualified health professionals.
“In recent years, the government has recruited over 3,500 healthcare workers, many of whom are graduates of this institution, to ensure adequate staffing and professionalism in the sector,” he stated.
Gov Buni assured the college management of support to improve the quality of training, staff and students’ welfare as well as conducive learning and teaching environment.
He also promised to address their needs and reposition the institution as a leading health training centre in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Muhammad Lawan Gana, in his address, announced that the state recently emerged the best-performing in primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria, following an assessment by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum under a Federal Government initiative. He said the recognition earned the state a $1.2 million prize.
Provost of the College, Dr Hadiza Sabo disclosed that the institution graduated a total of 1,485 students between 2019 and 2026, with all of them offered automatic employments by the state.
