In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, an umbrella organization representing multiple Edo women groups has called for an immediate mental evaluation of former governor Adams Oshiomhole following his shockingly insensitive remarks about Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the wife of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

The controversy ignited after Oshiomhole, in a brazen display of callousness during a media interview, allegedly ridiculed Mrs. Obaseki’s childlessness, a comment that has provoked widespread disgust across all sectors of society, particularly among women.
The EWDR minced no words in their condemnation, branding Oshiomhole’s comments as an “unforgivable assault on the dignity of womanhood and a grotesque violation of the sanctity of family.” The group declared that such vile remarks represent a new low in Edo politics, marking Oshiomhole as a man “whose tongue has been poisoned by the venom of deep-seated misogyny.”
“Senator Oshiomhole’s venomous words are not just an affront to Mrs. Obaseki—they are a blatant attack on all women, especially those who have faced the unique challenges of childlessness. His remarks are those of a man who has lost all sense of decency and humanity,” the statement read with palpable fury.
The EWDR, refusing to let this travesty slide, called for a comprehensive mental evaluation of Oshiomhole, suggesting that his bizarre outburst could be a sign of a deteriorating mind—one that is no longer fit to serve in any public capacity. They suggested that Oshiomhole’s mental state might be so compromised that he is no longer capable of the rational thought required of someone in his position.
“No rational, mentally sound individual would spew such venom against a woman who has served the state with dignity, grace, and unwavering commitment. We demand an immediate psychiatric assessment of Senator Oshiomhole to determine his fitness for public office,” said Mrs. Agatha Iredia, the fiery President of the EWDR.
This call for mental evaluation has quickly gained momentum, with a growing chorus of women’s rights organizations, civil society groups, and political commentators echoing the EWDR’s sentiments.
