In a significant political shift in Edo State, former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ugbeka Ward, Orhionmwon Local Government Area.
The defectors, led by Mr. Ernest Osifo (aka Gaddafi), former Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bright Ehimwenma, and Mr. Silas Ituayor, along with their supporters, were received by the Orhionmwon PDP leaders at a ceremony held in Ugbeka Ward.
According to a statement by Roy Osariemen, Chief Press Secretary, Orhionmwon Local Govt. Council, the defectors, speaking at the event said they left the APC due to its anti-people and retrogressive policies, prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of Nigerians.
They also expressed disappointment with the APC’s choice of a gubernatorial candidate, describing them as “intellectually deficient”.
The Orhionmwon PDP Chairman, Prince Stanley Iduoze, presented the defectors with the PDP umbrella, symbolizing their integration into the party. He assured them of equal benefits and rights as old members, emphasizing the PDP’s commitment to inclusivity and progress.
The Council Boss, Hon. Newman Ugiagbe, addressed the gathering, acknowledging the deplorable state of the Evboeghae road, which is under federal jurisdiction. However, he assured the residents that the Ministry of Roads and Bridges would take responsibility for its repair.
The event was attended by notable PDP members, including Hon. Bright Iyamu, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, and others.
This defection is seen as a major boost to the PDP in Orhionmwon LGA, ahead of the upcoming election.
The party’s commitment to the welfare of Edo people and its inclusive approach have resonated with the defectors.
