The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the Edo State Governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has faced a significant setback as key party members and leaders in Orhionmwon Local Government Area have resigned from the party.

This development comes ahead of the September 21 poll, adding to the challenges faced by Okpebholo’s campaign.

Hon Iweka Ukpere, a member of the APC State Campaign Council and former Vice Chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Council, along with other APC chieftains, cited internal crises within the party as their primary reason for leaving.

Ukpere, who was also an APC Apex Leader in Igbanke West, highlighted the party’s ongoing internal conflicts as a major factorin his decision.

In a similar move, Mr. Eric Omoregie, an APC Apex leader in Ugboko Ward, publicly announced his resignation from the party.

He criticized the APC’s governance at the federal level, attributing the hardships faced by many Nigerians to the party’s mismanagement.

These resignations are seen as a political blow to Senator Okpebholo’s campaign. They also underscore the efforts of Orhionmwon Local Government Council Chairman, Hon Newman Ugiagbe, who is actively working to shift support from the APC to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Ugiagbe’s efforts aim to consolidate backing for the PDP candidates, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate Barr Osarodion Ogie, in the upcoming election.
