Edo Government Lists Achievements In Roads Infrastructure, Takes Over Abandoned Benin-Abraka Road

The Edo State government, under the able hands of Governor Godwin Obaseki, has reeled out some of his roads infrastructural projects in the state just as he takes over the Benin-Abraka Road.

The 88km road project, was said to have been abandoned by the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

In the state government popular saying of “We have a good story to tell”, it was said that Edo State government has awarded 40.5km out of the 88km of the Benin-Abraka Road and work has reached an advanced stage.

This road, according to the state government, is a strategic road that leads to Orhionmwon Local Government Area that plays host to the largest oil palm project in Africa as well as Gas and crude oil fields.

The other is, Ekenwan-Ugbiyokho Road. It is said that the construction of the road project is ongoing and on completion, the road will be very significant as it leads to Gelegele which is the closest point to the Benin Port Project.

And to make the project solid, the State Government said, is deploying concrete technology in the construction of low-line areas of the road project.

According to the Road data made available to newsmen in Benin, the data showed that, the State Government has completed the construction of 565 roads, covering a total distance of 737.37 kilometers.

And it listed the notable projects to include the construction of the PZ-Ehioghae-Okabere-Oka Market Road, which links Sapele Road and Upper Sakponba; the Irhirhi-Aruogba-Obazagbon-Ogheghe Road; Ugbor-Amagba Road; St. Saviour Road; Benin-Abraka Road with spurs; the dualization of the TV and Ehaekpen road, and rehabilitation of failed sections on various roads.

In Edo North, the State Government successfully completed the construction of the Afokpella-Ogriga-Okugbe road with Awuyemi Spur, as well as the rehabilitation of the Secretariat Road in Igarra and several internal roads. While in Edo Central, the State Government has constructed 56 roads and about nine (9) roads are still under construction.

Among the notable roads constructed in the Edo Central Senatorial zone include the Ekpoma-Iruekpen Road and the Idumebo-Ihumudumu Royal Market Road, among other impactful developments.
