The Edo State Government, alongside the Aigbojie Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation and PSHAN, signed an agreement to construct 18 modern Primary Health Care Facilities (PHCs) across the state.
This significant signing occurred during a pivotal event held on November 20th, 2023, under the guidance of Prof. Faith Osadolor, Edo State’s Solicitor General.
According to a press release by Nene Olaye from the Public Relation Unit, Governor Godwin Obaseki, represented by SSG Mr. Osarodion Ogie (Esq), hailed the MOU signing as the starting point for significant enhancements in primary healthcare.
He highlighted plans to reconstruct the School of Health Technology to train future healthcare workers for these facilities, inviting attendees to tour the renovated facilities and witness the ongoing quality work at the school.
Dr. Samuel Alli, Edo State’s Honorable Commissioner for Health, commended the Aigbojie Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation and PSHAN for their meticulous selection of the 18 PHCs slated for construction. He emphasized the symbolic importance of this event, signifying a unified effort to revitalize PHCs across Edo.
Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), warmly welcomed guests and acknowledged Governor Godwin Obaseki’s unwavering support, setting the stage for a transformative era in Edo’s primary healthcare.
Mrs. Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, Executive Vice-Chairman of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, outlined the foundation’s mission to enhance lives through improved public service and increased access to quality primary healthcare.
She highlighted the intent to construct 23 PHCs nationwide, allocating 18 for Edo State, envisioning this public-private partnership as crucial for strengthening the health system.
Mrs. Tinuola Akinbolagbe, Managing Director/CEO of PSHAN, stressed the necessity of establishing model PHCs in each of the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to create a lasting impact at the grassroots level.
Referring to successful engagements in other states, she emphasized collaborative efforts in Edo State to execute planned PHC renovations through public-private partnerships.
Identified pilot PHCs for construction include Atoruru PHC in Sabongida Ora LGA, Idunmungha PHC in Uhunmwode LGA, Uteh PHC in Iwogban, and Evbuodia PHC in Oredo LGA.
Led by Dr. Samuel Alli and Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, guests toured the newly renovated Aruogba PHC in Oredo LGA, guided by Dr. Igbinobaro and Mrs. Flora. Later, they visited the School of Health Technology, Sapele Road, witnessing the ongoing construction work.
