The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Suleiman Danlami Kum as Head of its Nigeria National Office.
He succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure as head of the office ended on October 1, 2026, when he became the council’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos by Moyosola Adesina, WAEC Nigeria’s Head of Public Affairs.
Kum, 56, hails from Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State. He was previously Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Head of the National Office.
Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and rose through the ranks to Senior Deputy Registrar, Test Administration.
Along the way he served as head of examinations security in Awka, Yola and Makurdi, branch controller in Gusau and Kano, head of the Security Printing Department, zonal coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, and Director of Administration. WAEC credited him with several technological and administrative innovations.
These include introducing Variable Data Prints and enhanced security features in examination printing, deploying facial-recognition biometric attendance systems, and delivering Achievement Tests through Computer-Based Examination.
Kum holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2025.
He is completing a Master’s in Educational Administration and Planning at the same institution. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and has attended training programmes and conferences in Nigeria and abroad, including in the United Kingdom.
He takes charge as WAEC continues to play a central role in conducting major secondary school examinations in Nigeria.
