BNXN Responds to Fat Joe Over Allegation on Stage Name Change

Nigerian singer BNXN has pushed back against comments made by US rapper Fat Joe, who claimed he influenced the artist’s decision to change his stage name from Buju.

Fat Joe, speaking during a podcast appearance, suggested that BNXN altered his name after public criticism and accused him of misrepresenting the original “Buju” identity.

In response, BNXN rejected the claim and accused the rapper of spreading misinformation about African music and its artists. He urged Fat Joe to “educate himself,” stating that the comments were inaccurate and disrespectful.

The singer later clarified his position, saying he values respect and prefers not to engage in prolonged public conflict, while thanking supporters who defended him online.

BNXN officially changed his stage name in 2022. He previously explained that “Buju” was inspired by both personal meaning and Jamaican cultural references, and later evolved into an acronym he created.

The exchange has sparked discussion online, reflecting ongoing tensions around artistic identity, cultural interpretation, and public commentary within the global music industry.
