The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has finally spoken following widespread reports surrounding his death.
In an official statement released on social media, the family confirmed that the actor died after battling complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
According to the statement, Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, at Evercare Hospital after what was described as “a brief but courageous battle.”
The statement described the actor, popularly known as “Chief Ikuku,” as a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend whose strength and faith remained unwavering throughout his illness.
The family also appealed to the public for privacy and prayers as they mourn the painful loss, adding that funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
Following the announcement, tributes poured in from colleagues, fans, and friends across the entertainment industry. Music executive Ubi Franklin and comedian AY were among celebrities who publicly mourned the late actor, describing his death as heartbreaking.
Meanwhile, some reports by close associates and entertainment blogs claimed the actor had secretly battled stage 4 liver cancer since 2024 and had undergone a liver transplant before his condition worsened again.
