Mercy Johnson Withdraws Defamation Suit, Issues Stern Warning to Online Critics

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has issued a stern warning to bloggers and online commentators, saying she will no longer tolerate false or damaging claims about her and her family.

Her statement comes after she withdrew defamation charges against Nigerian TikToker Eedie Bliss, whose detention in December 2025 sparked public outrage.

The controversy began when Ms Bliss posted a video alleging that Mercy Johnson’s husband, Prince Okojie, bought a house for a pregnant mistress. The TikToker also claimed the actress played a role in the woman losing the pregnancy.

In a video making rounds on social media and seen by Truthlive news media, the actress explained that she dropped the case following appeals from members of the public.

“Thank you for the love but I felt the need to say that it will no longer be business as usual. I had stuff I planned to do this year, and court cases are going to be a part of them because some people wouldn’t leave my family alone. “When I was getting married, I don’t think I signed an NDA with anyone that we will go in there and not stay married. I got in alone; it means I have no business with anybody. There is no reason you should wake up every morning, look at me, count the years, and say you’re going to try and break this up. It’s not something that can be broken with lies and propaganda because I need no validation. I am dropping my case with this girl out of respect for people my husband and I respect,” she said.

Despite withdrawing the charges, the actress emphasised that she would no longer overlook attacks on her family.

“I don’t care who’s doing better. I’m just in my lane. Please leave me alone. Leave my name and my husband’s name out of your mouth. I’m in my lane. In my husband’s house, where he has instructed me to sit. That’s where I am, seated. Doing my thing.”

Mercy also highlighted the impact of online rumours on her children, revealing they have been bullied at school. She accused some blogs of being owned by colleagues or others seeking to profit from spreading false stories.

“It is fine if you don’t know that these faceless bloggers are paid. Actresses, colleagues, and people who don’t like you own these blogs. You ruin a marriage, then what? I have kids who are being bullied in school because of what you write. We have parents who don’t want my kids to touch their school bags because I am a witch,” she said in part.

She warned that anyone making allegations would now be required to provide proof, adding that while the case against Eedie Bliss is dropped, other defamation cases will continue through legal channels.

” Throw your stones all you want, but whoever alleges will have to prove,” Mercy added.

Eedie Bliss was released from detention on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
