Niniola Announces Husband’s Death After 13 Years Together

Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola Apata has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika.

The Grammy-nominated artiste disclosed the heartbreaking news in a series of emotional posts shared on her Instagram Story in the early hours of Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music.

“God took him,” she wrote in one of the posts.

“My husband died,” she added in another.

In a third post, the singer lamented, “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years.”

Each message was accompanied by photos of the couple.

The circumstances surrounding Ndika’s death were not immediately disclosed, as Niniola had largely kept her marriage and private life away from public attention and social media.

Niniola, 39, rose to fame after emerging as one of the top contestants on Project Fame West Africa in 2013 and has since become one of Nigeria’s leading afro-house artistes.

Her 2017 hit single, Maradona, earned international recognition and drew praise and collaborations from global stars including DJ Snake, Drake, Timbaland and Beyoncé.
