Kayode Olasehinde, widely known for his role as Pa James in Papa Ajasco and Company, has revealed that income from the popular sitcom is no longer sufficient to meet daily expenses.
Speaking in a recent interview, the veteran actor said he still maintains a working relationship with Wale Adenuga and credited the producer for playing a major role in his rise to fame.
According to him, the show brought him significant recognition, even more than his earlier work in Yoruba films, and helped him achieve personal milestones, including purchasing his first car.
However, Olasehinde noted that irregular production schedules have made financial stability difficult, with long gaps, sometimes up to two years between shoots.
He explained that actors on the show now earn about ₦45,000 per episode, compared to ₦2,500 when he first started, but emphasised that the limited number of episodes per year makes it hard to rely solely on the income.
As a result, he advised fellow actors to develop alternative sources of income, stressing that a side hustle is now essential to stay financially afloat.
Olasehinde also pointed out restrictions tied to the “Pa James” character, noting that he cannot commercially use the name outside the production due to trademark limitations.
His comments come amid ongoing concerns about earnings within the franchise, following claims by Abiodun Ayoyinka, who recently spoke about facing financial challenges despite his long-standing role in the series.
While Ayoyinka alleged restrictions on monetising his character, Adenuga dismissed the claims, describing them as exaggerated and insisting that actors are allowed to take on external opportunities with approval.
