Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has threatened to take General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) to court over alleged human rights abuse.
Falana’s decision comes after IBB’s recent admission that the June 12, 1993, presidential election was free and fair, and won by late MKO Abiola.
Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, was arrested, charged, and imprisoned in 1993 for challenging the military government’s annulment of the election.
He argued that IBB’s admission proves that his prosecution was malicious and an abuse of power, violating his right to liberty, freedom of movement, and democratic choice.
Falana, who said he had assembled a team of lawyers to challenge his malicious prosecution and that of his colleagues, noted that IBB’s admission has brought the issue back to life, and he is determined to pursue justice.
