Christian Eriksen Conscious after on-Field Collapse During Denmark Friendly

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered another frightening on-field collapse during a friendly match against Ukraine on Sunday, sending shockwaves through the football world.

Eriksen, 34, appeared to grab his chest before falling to the ground in the 65th minute of the international fixture in the Danish city of Odense.

A hush fell over the crowd as both Danish and Ukrainian players formed a protective ring around the stricken midfielder while medical staff rushed to attend to him on the pitch.

The Danish Football Federation confirmed in a statement on X that Eriksen was “conscious and doing well under the circumstances,” and announced the friendly had been called off. Eriksen was conscious and undergoing further tests in hospital following the incident.

The scenes drew an immediate and painful parallel to his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, when he collapsed during a group stage match against Finland and had to be resuscitated on the field with CPR before being rushed to hospital.

Eriksen has had a special heart-starting device implanted since his collapse in 2021.

Despite that life-saving intervention, he mounted one of sport’s most remarkable comebacks returning to club football, earning his place back in the

Danish national squad, and even scoring at Euro 2024. Sunday’s incident is certain to raise fresh and urgent questions about his future in the game, though the immediate focus remains on his recovery and wellbeing.
