Como Demolish United in Italy as Pressure Mounts on Carrick

Cesc Fabregas’s led Como capped off a windy Champions League victory over Man utd, as the serie A side put four goals past Man utd.

The defeat extended their winless run to seven matches and left Michael Carrick’s position looking increasingly fragile.

Nico Paz opened the scoring in the second minute with a curling left-footed strike into the top corner, and as host enjoyed most of the ball possession in the First half, limiting man Utd offensive threats to zero attempt on goal.

Anastasios Douvikas doubles Como lead a few minutes to the start of the second half, latching on to a through ball from Paz, which he dispatched past the helpless Lammens.

Baleba lost the ball in the centre circle, allowing Paz to take advantage of the loose ball, and for the second time, he hit the ball at the back of the net, putting further doubt on united comeback dreams.

centre-back Jacobo Ramon headed in a fourth with a well-worked move. Joshua Zirkzee scored a consolation goal in stoppage time after a lengthy VAR review.

The result also set an unwanted record. United became the first English side to concede inside the first two minutes of successive major European games, having gone behind in the first minute against Atletico Madrid a week earlier.

They have won just two of their ten games this season, and the run reads 0-1 against Man City, 2-3 against Brighton, 1-1 against Fulham, 1-1 against Tottenham, 0-2 against Atletico, 1-1 against Leeds and now this heavy loss.

The night also marked Cesc Fabregas’s first managerial meeting with Carrick, and it ended in what Como Fans will describe as the greatest night in their club history.

Speculation over Carrick’s future has been growing for days. Italian outlets have claimed United are seriously considering a change, with Antonio Conte repeatedly named as the likely replacement, though English reports have said the club is not yet planning to sack him.

Fabrizio Romano said last week that the squad still backs Carrick, but this performance will test that belief and the patience of the club’s INEOS-led hierarchy. Defeat in Italy only adds to the urgency of United’s next fixtures.
