Leeds United booked a place in the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in 39 years after defeating West Ham United in a tense penalty shoot-out.
Leeds looked set for a comfortable win after taking a two-goal lead through Ao Tanaka’s first-half strike and a penalty converted by Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the second half.
However, West Ham staged a late comeback, scoring twice in stoppage time to level the match at 2–2 and force extra time.
With no further goals during extra time, the match was decided on penalties. Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri played a crucial role, making key saves to help his team secure a 4–2 victory in the shoot-out.
Despite an early miss from Joel Piroe, Leeds converted the rest of their penalties, while West Ham failed to keep up under pressure.
The win marks a significant milestone for Leeds, who had not reached this stage of the competition since 1987. They will now face Chelsea in the semi-finals at Wembley later this month.
The victory also provides a morale boost for Leeds amid an ongoing relegation battle in the league, where both teams are fighting to avoid dropping out of the top division.
