Liverpool Sack Arne Slot Despite Recent Title Success

Liverpool have parted ways with head coach Arne Slot, ending his tenure just one year after he guided the club to a Premier League championship.

The decision follows a disappointing title defense campaign in which Liverpool struggled for consistency and suffered numerous defeats across competitions. Although the club secured Champions League qualification on the final day of the season, senior figures reportedly concluded that a new direction was needed to maintain progress.

Liverpool’s ownership praised Slot’s achievements and professionalism, highlighting his role in delivering a league title and his leadership during difficult moments, including the period following the tragic death of forward Diogo Jota. However, they stated that a change in approach was necessary to improve the team’s long-term trajectory.

Bournemouth’s former manager Andoni Iraola is considered a leading candidate to take over at Anfield. Liverpool are expected to move quickly in appointing a successor, with sporting director Richard Hughes having previously worked with Iraola.

Slot’s first season was widely viewed as a success as he smoothly followed Jürgen Klopp and led Liverpool to the league crown. However, heavy investment in new signings failed to produce the expected results during the following campaign, while performances and playing style came under increasing criticism from supporters.

Reports suggest that members of Slot’s coaching staff could also leave the club as Liverpool begin preparations for a new era ahead of the 2026–27 season.
