Cristiano Ronaldo believes his eldest son, Cristiano Jr., has the potential to surpass his own remarkable career achievements, revealing that the teenager is already ahead of where he was at the same age.
The Portugal star shared the insight in a video released by Netflix Sports on Thursday, as he watched his 16-year-old son train with the Al Nassr youth team.
Ronaldo also praised Cristiano Jr.’s personality and discipline, while joking that his younger children at home are much more challenging to manage.
“He’s a good kid. The other ones are tougher, the ones at home, the small ones. This one is no problem,” Ronaldo said.
“When I was his age, he is a little bit bigger and stronger. I was smaller. I think he will be bigger than me.”
Ronaldo, however, stressed that physical attributes alone would not determine his son’s success in football.
When another person in the video wondered whether Cristiano Jr. would have the same drive as his father, Ronaldo replied: “Hunger is the most difficult.”
Cristiano Jr., born on June 17, 2010, is Ronaldo’s eldest child and currently plays for the Al Nassr youth team. The identity of his mother has not been publicly disclosed.
The 41-year-old remains one of football’s most successful and decorated figures, having lifted 36 major trophies during his illustrious career with Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al Nassr and Portugal.
His remarkable list of achievements includes five UEFA Champions League crowns, five Ballon d’Or awards, triumphs at UEFA Euro 2016 and two UEFA Nations League titles, along with numerous domestic league championships across England, Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia.
Ronaldo also holds the record as the highest-scoring player in men’s international football history.
