Nottingham Forest find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle after the English Premier League (EPL) deducted four points from the club for breaching the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

With the deduction, Forest now sit in 18th place in the Premier League standings, trailing behind Luton by one point, who have climbed to 17th position.

Truth Live News however gathered that Forest have a seven-day window to appeal the decision, although the club is reportedly consulting with legal advisors before making a decision.

The charges against Forest were confirmed in January after they admitted to breaching the Premier League’s PSR for the assessment period ending in 2022/23.

In a statement released on Monday afternoon, the Premier League disclosed that Forest had exceeded the PSR threshold by £34.5 million, surpassing the permitted limit of £61 million. This breach led to the immediate four-point deduction.

The club’s case was heard by an independent commission, which applied the sanction following a two-day hearing. Despite Forest’s cooperation throughout the process, the commission deemed the breach significant enough to warrant the deduction.

Forest now face an uphill battle to secure their Premier League status, with nine matches remaining in the season, four of which are against teams currently ranked 14th or lower. Their first game after the international break sees them hosting 14th-placed Crystal Palace.

It’s worth recalling that earlier in the season, Everton received a similar deduction of 10 points, which was later reduced to six on appeal, for breaching the same regulations.
