The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has issued an alarm, notifying Zenith Bank of the establishment of a fake account for fraudulent operations.

The alarm which was issued in a letter titled ‘Re: Illegal Opening And Operation of Edo PDP Account’, was dated May 8, 2023, and personally signed by the state party’s secretary, Chief Hilary Otsu.

The letter which was addressed to Zenith Bank PLC and made available to Truth Live News reads in parts:

“We wish to bring to your attention our sad discovery of fraudulent operation of an unauthorised Party account in your bank.

“We have established that a Phoney Party account has been opened with obvious collaboration with your bank officials in one of your branches in Benin City, for the sole purpose to collect nomination fees from Party members for the upcoming Local Government Council elections in Edo State. The said account (Edo Grassroots Empowerment Initiative, No: 1018252016) is unknown to Edo State PDP and several unsuspecting aspirants have already made payments into the said account.

“The said account was set up by some unscrupulous Party officials in collaboration with your staff with intent to defraud Party members and cause confusion in our Party. Please find attached a forged statement, using the name of the State Organising Secretary to direct payments into the account.

“We implore the bank to investigate the process of opening of this account, identify and bring to book those who facilitated the process and furnish us the details of the transactions on the account in order for us to establish the extent to which it has been used to perpetrate illegal payments and refund same to those who have paid.”
