The Nigerian Army has sanctioned a soldier serving under Operation Hadin Kai for spreading what it described as misleading information about the feeding conditions of troops in the North-East.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, May 2, 2026, following an internal investigation into a viral social media post.
According to Uba, the probe revealed that the image shared by the soldier did not accurately reflect the full ration issued to him.
“The Headquarters Theatre Command Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has noted with concern recent social media publications alleging poor feeding of troops within the theatre of operation,” the statement read.
“Following a detailed internal review conducted in line with established procedures, the Theatre Command wishes to categorically state that the images and narratives being circulated are misleading and do not reflect the actual feeding arrangements or welfare standards of troops in the North-East theatre.”
Uba maintained that personnel deployed across formations under Operation Hadin Kai are fed according to approved standards. He added that meal provisions are consistently implemented and, where operational conditions allow, enhanced during festive periods such as Sallah and Easter to boost morale.
He further explained that the Army operates a structured feeding system overseen by Food Committees made up of personnel across ranks and led by senior non-commissioned officers, ensuring transparency and accountability in meal planning and distribution.
The spokesman said the investigation confirmed deliberate misrepresentation by the soldier involved.
“Investigations established that the image did not represent the complete ration issued to the individual at the time. Accordingly, appropriate disciplinary measures were applied in line with the provisions of the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004),” he said.
He reaffirmed that troop welfare remains a priority despite the logistical and environmental challenges associated with operations in the North-East.
Uba also urged personnel to channel grievances through official internal mechanisms rather than resorting to social media, warning that misinformation could undermine military operations and national security efforts.
He called on the public to rely on verified information, stressing that the spread of false narratives for attention or financial gain could negatively impact ongoing operations.
