Nigerian music star, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has become the first Nigerian entertainer to ring the closing bell at the London Stock Exchange.
The singer announced the milestone in a post shared on his verified X account on Friday, July 24, 2026.
According to D’banj, he was invited to participate in the ceremony on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, as part of activities marking the 125th anniversary of the Royal African Society in London.
Describing the occasion as a historic moment, the award winning artiste shared photographs from the event and expressed gratitude for the recognition.
“On Wednesday, July 22, history was made. I was invited to the London Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell as we celebrated 125 years of the Royal African Society.
“I am honoured to have shared the same platform with the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Michael Drew, and former President of Afreximbank and Second Patron of the Royal African Society, Prof. Benedict Oramah.
“I must greet you all specially and powerfully,” he wrote.
The London Stock Exchange hosts Market Open and Market Close ceremonies to commemorate significant milestones, corporate listings, anniversaries and other notable achievements by organisations, companies and institutions.
The Royal African Society, established in 1901, is one of the United Kingdom’s oldest organisations dedicated to promoting knowledge and engagement with Africa through culture, education, business and public policy.
