How 12 Died, 14 Others Injured In Benin – Auchi – Lokoja Road Crash, Says FRSC

The Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) has attributed the accident that led to the death of 12 persons and the injuring of 14 others in Egono near Ewu along the Benin – Auchi – Lokoja road to over speeding.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Command of the FRSC Patricia Onwochei disclosed this to Journalists in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

She said out of the 12 persons that died, one was buried while 11 were deposited at the St Lazarus hospital’s mortuary in the area.

Her words, “The accident was caused by wrong overtaking. 12 died and 14 other sustained injuries. One has been buried and 11 corpses have been deposited in the mortuary.

However, according to eye witnesses account, the truck was conveying passengers and goods, and it was heading towards Benin City on speed.

They said the vehicle dangerously overtook another vehicle and in the process fell and trapped some of the passengers.

They said 37 passengers were involved in the accident, 12 died while 14 sustained various levels of injuries while others escaped unhurt.
