The Abia State Police Command has arrested a suspected child trafficker and rescued six abducted children during an intelligence-led operation in the state.
Truth Live News gathered that the arrest was announced in a statement issued on Thursday, August 6, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Maureen Chinaka.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect, identified as Nnamdi Lazarus, 51, is an indigene of Mbano in Imo State.
Chinaka said the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Aba North, following credible intelligence.
“Acting on credible and actionable intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Aba North, apprehended Nnamdi Lazarus, currently residing in Uratta, Aba, Abia State.
“The suspect was found harbouring and keeping the children,” the statement said.
The police said all six rescued children have been safely reunited with their respective families.
According to the command, investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected child trafficking syndicate.
The police added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led policing and assured residents that criminal elements would not be allowed to operate freely within the state.
