Governor Bago Flags-Off Corn Harvest in Niger

In an effort to fulfill his feed the nation objective through automated agriculture, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has officially opened the Niger Foods corn harvest.

The Governor used a combination harvester to signal the harvest while he was at one of Niger Foods’ corn farms along Minna-Bida route.

He was ecstatic as he announced that Niger Foods has more than 100,000 hectares of maize fields dispersed over the state, emphasizing that 100 harvesters had been used in total.

Even though the State anticipates producing almost a million metric tonnes of corn this year, excluding rice, soybeans, sesame, guinea corn, and millet, he added that the usage of the combined harvesters will minimize losses by 80 to 90 percent.

As a result, the Governor urged the State Task Force for Price Control to promptly devise policies that would limit the actions of food aggregators who keep food supplies in their warehouses, which he claimed frequently causes food prices to rise.

As a result, Governor Umaru Bago came and engaged with the residents of the Emi Guye neighborhood surrounding the farm.

He directed that some basic amenities such as water and solar energy be provided to the community and other adjourning communities.

Meanwhile, the Village Head of Emi Guye, Alhaji Usman Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of the people, appreciated the governor and commended the Governor for his development strides in the state.
