In a fresh escalation of the conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Hamas, the terrorist group issued a stern warning on Sunday, threatening the lives of hostages in Gaza unless demands, including additional aid for Gaza, are met.

Abu Obeida, a spokesperson for Hamas’s armed wing, conveyed this ultimatum during a televised broadcast reported by Israeli media.

The recent tension follows a temporary ceasefire deal struck on Nov. 24, facilitating the release of 110 hostages by Hamas in exchange for around 240 Palestinian prisoners.

However, the truce ended on Nov. 30 as both sides accused each other of violating the agreement, reigniting fierce fighting and exchanges of fire.

The crisis stems from Hamas terrorists abducting more than 240 Israelis and foreign nationals during an Oct. 7 border overran, resulting in the death of 1,200 individuals, as reported by the Israeli government.

In response, Israel launched extensive bombing campaigns and ground operations aimed at dismantling the terrorist group.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the ongoing conflict, calling for Hamas fighters to surrender.

Netanyahu, speaking in Hebrew during a televised statement, highlighted that numerous Hamas members have surrendered to Israeli forces in recent days, emphasizing the beginning of the end for the group and urging fighters to lay down their arms.

Amid the escalating tensions, Qatar, a key mediator, acknowledged the diminishing prospects for a new ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Despite the narrowing chances, Qatar pledged to persist in pressuring both sides toward de-escalation and a potential resolution.
