The Uromi Like Minds Initiative (ULMI), a prominent community-based, non-governmental organisation committed to grassroots development and humanitarian intervention, has taken its sixth annual medical outreach to Owalla community in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, as part of its sustained efforts to improve access to essential healthcare services among underserved populations.
The three-day humanitarian exercise, which commenced on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Eko-Omonua community, recorded an impressive turnout, with over 110 residents receiving free medical consultations, treatment, medications and other essential medical supplies during the opening day.
The outreach, now in its sixth edition, has become one of the organisation’s most significant humanitarian interventions since its establishment in 2020, providing much-needed medical assistance to residents who might otherwise struggle to access or afford basic healthcare services.

On Friday, October 23, the medical team moved to Owalla community for the second phase of the programme, where residents are expected to benefit from a comprehensive range of medical services, including eye examinations and treatment, blood tests, diabetes screening, general health assessments and treatment for other identified medical conditions.
The exercise is being undertaken by qualified medical personnel, with necessary medications and medical supplies made available to beneficiaries according to their individual health needs.
Speaking with Truth Live News on Thursday, the Director of Projects and Chairman of the Welfare Committee of the Uromi Like Minds Initiative, Hon. Matthias Igberaese, expressed satisfaction with the success recorded during the opening day, describing the turnout as encouraging and a reflection of the pressing healthcare needs within rural communities.
According to him, the number of residents who presented themselves for medical attention exceeded initial expectations, further reinforcing the importance of sustaining humanitarian interventions that bring essential healthcare services directly to communities.
“This medical outreach remains one of our legacy projects since the formation of Uromi Like Minds Initiative in 2020, and it is particularly dear to our hearts. As an organisation, we attach enormous importance to initiatives that directly improve the lives and well-being of our people,” Igberaese stated.

He explained that the organisation’s humanitarian activities are sustained largely through the collective sacrifices, voluntary contributions and unwavering commitment of members who continually pool their resources to finance community development projects across Uromi.
“What makes ULMI particularly remarkable is the commitment of our members, who consistently contribute their personal resources towards ensuring that these interventions are implemented. Some of our projects are undertaken annually, while others are executed periodically, depending on the prevailing needs of our communities and the resources available,” he added.
The project director emphasised that access to quality healthcare should not remain the exclusive privilege of those with the financial means to afford it, noting that the organisation’s annual medical outreach was conceived to help bridge the healthcare accessibility gap, particularly among vulnerable residents, elderly people and low-income households.
He further disclosed that ULMI remains determined to expand the scope of its humanitarian and developmental interventions beyond its existing programmes, with particular attention to initiatives capable of delivering sustainable benefits to communities across Esan North-East Local Government Area.
Igberaese consequently appealed to public-spirited sons and daughters of Uromi, both at home and in the diaspora, as well as friends and well-wishers of the ancient kingdom, to identify with the organisation and support its growing portfolio of community development projects.

He maintained that the responsibility for building stronger and more prosperous communities should not be left entirely to government institutions, stressing that organised community participation, philanthropy and collective responsibility remain indispensable instruments for sustainable grassroots development.
Beyond its healthcare interventions, the ULMI official highlighted several other ongoing projects being undertaken by the organisation, including its annual secondary schools football tournament, which provides opportunities for boys and girls across Uromi to showcase their sporting talents while promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy competition.
He also drew attention to the organisation’s continuing involvement in the rehabilitation, equipping and operational support of the Edo State Library in Uromi, describing the educational facility as an important investment in literacy, intellectual development and the future of young people within the community.
The organisation’s simultaneous commitment to healthcare delivery, educational advancement and grassroots sports development, he observed, underscores its broader philosophy that meaningful community transformation requires consistent investment in human welfare and the institutions that support social progress.
Since its establishment in 2020, the Uromi Like Minds Initiative has continued to distinguish itself through a series of community-driven interventions spanning healthcare, education, youth development, security support and other charitable activities, financed substantially through the voluntary contributions of its members.
The sixth annual medical outreach is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Iruele Amedokhian community, bringing the three-day exercise to a close after extending free healthcare services to three communities within the Uromi Kingdom.

For residents of Eko-Omonua, Owalla and Iruele Amedokhian, the intervention represents more than a routine medical exercise. It offers practical relief from the financial burden of accessing healthcare while demonstrating the enormous difference that organised community action can make in addressing pressing social needs.
As the medical team continues its humanitarian assignment in Owalla, ULMI’s latest intervention once again reinforces the enduring value of collective responsibility, demonstrating how the determination of committed individuals can translate into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
