Recently reappointed Director General, DG, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Prof Christianah Mojisola Adeyeye, in a no holds barred confession, said that her predicessors almost ran aground the agency with debt, poor budget implementation and generally demoralizing the work force in the place.

But explaining reasons why President Mohammadu Buhari reappointed her, Prof Adeyeye said that she has managed to pay back N3.02 billion debt inherited past Director Generals including her presicessor.

She said that she managed the fit within a period of one year during her first tenure.

The NAFDAC DG also added that the sum of about N180 million as money generated was discovered to be fictitious.

Under her watch at the agency, internally generated revenue, IGR, moved up to 2.5 billion naira.

“User fees have more than doubled to N15 billion from 2019-Date; international partnership funding (Cash and Technical Support) received amounted to $3,927,186.00.

“These funds are currently being utilized for specified purposes,” she said to journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

“You may please recall that I met an agency with glaring symptoms of sundry administrative and procedural lapses.

“Essential physical facilities and laboratory infrastructures had fallen into terrible states of disrepair.

“Indeed, some NAFDAC laboratories were almost non-functional no Scheme or Condition of Service, and payment of staff allowances was very irregular,” she explained.
