In a remarkable moment for cultural heritage, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the leading candidate in the September 21 Edo State gubernatorial election, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, and the entire Edo community on the repatriation of two ancient royal stools from Germany.
In a press statement he signed, released by his media team, Team Asue Media Organisation, and made available to Truth Live News on Monday, Dr Ighodalo highlighted that the return of these treasured artefacts symbolizes the restoration of Edo’s cultural heritage and signifies international recognition of the artistic and historical significance of the Great Benin Kingdom.
He said: “This is indeed a significant milestone,” Dr. Ighodalo stated. “I share the joy of this moment with the Palace and all citizens of Edo State. The return of these stools marks a pivotal moment in our history and reflects the enduring legacies of our forebears who crafted these remarkable works of art.”
In the statement, Dr Ighodalo expressed hope that this event would pave the way for the return of more artefacts from Europe and other parts of the world through continued cultural diplomacy and collaboration. He praised the resilient spirits of the Oba and the people of Edo State, which have been instrumental in achieving this monumental repatriation.
“May this significant historical event inspire further efforts to reclaim our cultural heritage,” Dr Ighodalo concluded. “Once again, congratulations to the Palace on this historic achievement.”
