Police Probe Death of Kogi Teacher Allegedly Assaulted for Disciplining Pupil

The Kogi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a primary school teacher who allegedly died after being assaulted for disciplining a pupil in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.

The command said the case, which is being treated as culpable homicide, was reported at the Olamaboro Divisional Police Headquarters on June 25, 2026.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that on June 18, 2026, one Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, allegedly stormed Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, where they assaulted a staff member, Maryam Usman, 30, for disciplining a pupil.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention. She, however, passed away on June 25, 2026,” the statement said.

Afusat said police operatives visited the scene of the incident and the deceased’s residence after the case was reported, where necessary documentation was carried out.

She added that arrangements were being made to move the deceased’s body to the General Hospital, Ankpa, for a medical examination and autopsy.

The police spokesperson said the suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene, adding that efforts were underway to apprehend them.

“Upon their arrest, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and comprehensive investigation,” she said.
