Resident doctors in England have scheduled another round of strike action for mid-June, intensifying an ongoing dispute with the government over pay and working conditions.
The industrial action, organized by the British Medical Association, is set to run from June 15 to June 19. Union representatives say the decision follows frustration that the new health minister, James Murray, has not improved a previously rejected pay proposal.
Doctors, previously known as junior doctors have been taking intermittent strike action since 2023. Their campaign focuses on reversing years of below-inflation wage increases and addressing staffing shortages within the National Health Service.
Union officials argue that the government’s offer does not adequately reflect the pressures faced by healthcare workers. However, the government maintains that further pay increases would be financially unsustainable and could place additional strain on public resources.
Officials have warned that if negotiations fail to progress, more strike dates could follow in July, raising concerns about continued disruption to healthcare services.
