Four Arrested in UK Probe Into $60 Million Home Insulation Fraud

Four individuals have been arrested in the United Kingdom as part of an investigation into an alleged fraud worth more than £44 million ($60 million) linked to a government-backed energy efficiency scheme, authorities said on Wednesday.

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) confirmed that six properties were searched during the operation. The inquiry focuses on suspected abuses of a programme intended to help households reduce energy costs and improve heating efficiency.

Investigators allege that three companies , Warmfront, JJ Crump, and South Coast Insulation Services submitted claims for work that was either incomplete or never carried out between 2022 and 2024.

The SFO has issued a public appeal for information, encouraging individuals with knowledge of the scheme, including installers, to come forward.

The case forms part of a broader nationwide anti-fraud initiative known as Operation Henhouse. At its centre is the government’s Energy Company Obligation scheme, specifically its latest phase, ECO4, which requires energy suppliers to support households in cutting energy use and lowering heating expenses.

Authorities said Warmfront was sold in 2024 and is now under new ownership not connected to the investigation. South Coast Insulation Services has ceased operations, while JJ Crump has not yet responded to requests for comment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
