Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say they have turned back three ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions in the region continue.
According to AFP news, Truthlive news learnt that the Gaurds disclosed on their Sepah News website on Friday
According to them, the vessels were stopped after receiving warnings from its naval forces. It added that the waterway is now closed to ships travelling to or from ports linked to its “enemies”.
“Three container ships of different nationalities were turned back after a warning,” the Guards said.
The statement also rejected claims by US President Donald Trump, who had said the strait remained open.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key global shipping route, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes. Any disruption there could affect global energy markets.
Shipping intelligence firm Kpler said it had tracked two container ships operated by Chinese company COSCO attempting to cross the strait, but both vessels later turned back.
A data analyst at the firm described the move as the first crossing attempt by a major carrier since the conflict began.
The ships had reportedly remained in the Gulf since the start of hostilities, which followed US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.
Meanwhile, Mr Trump said Iran had earlier allowed 10 oil tankers to pass through the strait, describing it as a “gesture” to signal willingness for negotiations.
The situation remains tense, with the Strait of Hormuz increasingly viewed as a critical point in the ongoing crisis.
