U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly urged Israel to avoid further military action against Iran after Tehran launched missiles at Israeli targets in response to Israeli airstrikes near Beirut, raising fears of a broader regional escalation.
According to reports, Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that additional retaliation could jeopardize ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a wider agreement with Iran. The U.S. president has repeatedly stated that negotiations are progressing and has expressed confidence that a deal remains within reach.
The latest exchange of fire began after Israeli forces carried out strikes on the outskirts of Beirut, an area associated with Hezbollah. Iran responded by launching missiles toward Israel, saying the attack was a direct response to actions carried out against its allies in Lebanon.
Israeli authorities said air defence systems intercepted the incoming projectiles and reported no immediate major damage. Iranian officials stated that military installations were among the intended targets.
The developments come at a sensitive moment in efforts to reduce tensions across the region. Tehran has consistently maintained that any agreement with Washington must also address the situation in Lebanon, where fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has continued despite international calls for restraint.
While Trump has sought to keep diplomatic channels open, Israeli officials have signaled that military options remain under consideration. The Israeli military said it had not yet received orders to strike Iran following the missile launches but would be prepared to act if instructed.
Iranian leaders warned that further attacks on their interests or allies could trigger additional responses. Officials in Tehran also accused Israel of undermining diplomatic progress by continuing military operations in Lebanon.
The conflict has remained volatile despite repeated efforts by international mediators to secure a broader ceasefire. Fighting involving Israel, Iran and allied groups has disrupted regional stability, affected shipping routes and increased pressure on global energy markets.
Trump has continued to insist that a negotiated settlement remains possible, arguing that diplomacy offers the best chance of preventing a wider conflict. However, significant differences remain between Washington and Tehran on issues including sanctions relief, regional security arrangements and Iran’s nuclear programme.
As tensions persist, governments across the region are closely watching whether diplomatic efforts can withstand the latest escalation and prevent a further deterioration of security in the Middle East.
