US President Donald Trump has warned that Iran’s critical infrastructure could be targeted if ongoing efforts to reach a peace agreement fail.
Speaking on Monday, According to BBC news, Mr Trump said key facilities, including oil installations and water infrastructure such as desalination plants, could be struck if negotiations do not produce results “shortly.”
The warning comes amid escalating tensions in the region. Recent days have seen Iran launch attacks on a major water and electricity facility in Kuwait, while an oil refinery in Israel was also hit. In response, US and Israeli forces carried out further strikes on Iranian targets.
Mr Trump has previously suggested that US forces could take control of Iran’s main oil export hub on Kharg Island, a move analysts say would deal a significant blow to the country’s economy.
Despite repeated claims by Washington that diplomatic progress is being made, Iranian officials have denied holding direct talks with the United States.
The US has also increased its military presence in the Middle East in recent weeks, signalling a more assertive stance as the conflict intensifies.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts involving regional actors, including Pakistan, remain uncertain. Countries such as the United Arab Emirates have indicated that any potential agreement should include limits on Iran’s military capabilities.
There are currently no clear signs of de-escalation, with continued military exchanges and stalled diplomacy raising concerns about a wider regional conflict.
