Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, made history on October 1, 2024, by becoming the first US president to celebrate his 100th birthday. This remarkable milestone is a testament to Carter’s resilience and dedication to his values.
Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, Carter has spent his life serving others. He was a peanut farmer, a Georgia State Senator, and the 76th Governor of Georgia before becoming President in 1977. His presidency was marked by significant foreign policy accomplishments, including the Camp David Accords and the establishment of diplomatic relations with China.
After leaving office, Carter founded the Carter Center in 1982, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing democracy, human rights, and global health. The Center has made significant contributions to election observation, conflict resolution, and disease prevention.
So, what’s behind Carter’s remarkable Longevity? According to Jill Stuckey, superintendent of the National Park Service’s Jimmy Carter historical site, “Healthy habits and his faith are a lot of the reasons why he is still with it today.” Carter’s commitment to fresh food, exercise, and his Christian faith have contributed to his well-being.
To mark this special occasion, the Carter Center hosted a star-studded concert, “Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song,” at Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre.
President Joe Biden hailed Carter as a “beloved friend” and “one of the most influential statesmen” in US history. The White House also displayed a birthday message on its lawn.
At 100, Carter remains engaged in politics and plans to vote in the November election. His life serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating the power of service, compassion, and dedication to making a difference.
