Benin City, Edo State

In a surprising turn of events, John Mayaki, former Special Assistant on Media to the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Development, has announced his resignation from his position and his decision to withdraw support from the APC (All Progressives Congress) candidate in the upcoming Edo Governorship election.

Mayaki who had earlier declined the appointment of a media director to APC Guber Candidate, Monday Okpebholo following his resignation has unfollowed APC on all social media platforms, marking a significant shift in his political allegiance and principles.

In his letter of resignation addressed to Engr Abubakar Momoh, dated June 14, 2024, and made available to Truth Live News, Mayaki cited several reasons for his departure. He expressed a deep sense of commitment to his values and a frustration with the unchecked hostility he faced from certain quarters, which he believes undermined his ability to effectively carry out his duties.

This hostile environment, according to Mayaki, distracted him from delivering impactful work and ultimately led to his decision to exit gracefully

He said “My decision is further informed by recent developments in politics back at home in Edo State, where we both hail from. My withdrawal of support from the APC candidate in the Edo Governorship election, whom you have publicly endorsed, may create an untenable work environment.

I must emphasize that my stance is guided by my long-held belief in prioritizing sound judgment, moral clarity, and merit over partisan considerations in the election of public officials, particularly for critical offices like the Governorship.

I firmly believe that the governance of Edo State is too vital to be influenced solely by political affiliations. Instead, we must prioritize competence, resourcefulness, and visionary leadership that inspires and aligns with the demands of our time.”

Political pundits within Edo state have opined that Mayaki’s resignation and purported alliance with PDPs candidate, Barr Asue Ighodalo, is a paradigm shift and major endorsement that shows the capacity and competence gap between Asue Ighodalo and the Apc gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo
