Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has lauded broadcast media organizations for their pivotal role in enhancing public awareness, participatory democracy, and peaceful coexistence nationwide. In a goodwill message released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Zuru, Governor Idris highlighted the significant impact of radio and television in connecting the government with its citizens.
The governor emphasized, “Governor Idris also acknowledged the media’s role in providing platforms for democratically elected leaders to showcase their achievements and challenges in governance.” He noted that such platforms are crucial not only for information and entertainment but also for public discourse on government performance.
Truth Live News gathered that Idris reaffirmed his commitment to freedom of speech but called on media professionals to practice responsible journalism. “While reaffirming his belief in freedom of speech, the governor urged media practitioners to uphold the principle of fair hearing to prevent the spread of unverified or politically motivated allegations. He stressed that responsible journalism is key to maintaining trust and credibility within society,” the message stated.
The governor also spoke of his administration’s efforts to revitalize state-owned media outlets for improved efficiency and productivity. He pointed out that notable advancements have been made, especially with the recent equipping of Kebbi State Radio and Television stations with state-of-the-art technology.
In addition, Governor Idris extended his congratulations to the newly elected leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kebbi State Chapter. He committed to supporting journalists in making a substantial societal impact, promising, “He assured the new executives and all working journalists in the state of his administration’s continued support in ensuring their work makes a meaningful impact on society.”
