The Kogi State government has received federal approval to construct an international airport in Zariagi, a project set to serve 10 nearby states and ease traffic between Lokoja and Abuja.
In a statement on Friday, Kogi’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the approval was granted by the federal ministry of aviation and aerospace development in a letter dated October 9, 2024.
Fanwo noted that Governor Usman Ododo is committed to seeing the project completed swiftly.
“The Ododo administration has prioritized making Kogi State a significant player in the aviation sector,” Fanwo said. He highlighted the state’s strategic location as central to its potential as an aviation hub, emphasizing that the airport will enhance Kogi’s economy, create jobs, and bring the state into the global spotlight.
Fanwo added that the airport will include both passenger services and cargo capacity, aiming to boost the state’s economy by opening new trade avenues. He assured residents that the Ododo administration remains dedicated to advancing Kogi through strategic projects.
Expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the aviation minister, Fanwo said the approval marks a historic development for Kogi State.
