A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, May 18, granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million to social critic and blogger, Justice Chidebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, who is facing prosecution by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged cybercrime offences.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered that the defendant provide one surety in like sum as part of the bail conditions.
Justice Crack is being prosecuted over a viral video relating to the feeding and welfare of personnel in the Nigerian Army. The Federal Government alleged that the publication contained false information capable of inciting public unrest.
Proceedings in the matter had earlier been delayed last Thursday following disagreements between two lawyers who both claimed to represent the defendant under the Crack Insecurity Solutions Forum.
At the resumed hearing on Monday, the Federal Government opened its case by presenting its first witness, DSS operative Uruntu Douglas.
While testifying before the court, Douglas stated that Justice Crack was handed over to the DSS by the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps, after which he voluntarily made an extrajudicial statement.
The witness further told the court that data extracted from the defendant’s mobile phone revealed photographs and materials allegedly sent to him by soldiers complaining about their welfare.
According to the DSS operative, the defendant later shared the materials on his Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and TikTok accounts.
Printouts from the social media platforms were tendered before the court and admitted as exhibits.
The DSS, in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/253/2026, accused the blogger of circulating false information and publishing materials allegedly capable of causing public disorder.
