Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has approved a reduction in official closing hours for civil servants across the state throughout the 1447AH/2026 Ramadan fasting period, allowing Muslim workers greater flexibility to observe religious obligations.
The directive, conveyed in a circular dated February 17, 2026, and signed by Ismail Ibn L. Garam, Director of Establishments in the Office of the Head of Civil Service, was addressed to the Chief of Staff, Government House.
According to the circular, civil servants will now close by 3:00 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays, while the existing Friday closing time of 1:00 p.m. remains unchanged.
The measure aims to support full participation in Ramadan activities. “The decision is aimed at enabling Muslim civil servants to properly observe the tenets of Ramadan and participate fully in religious activities during the holy month,” the circular stated.
It further encouraged workers to utilize the period for spiritual reflection and national goodwill: “The circular further urged workers to use the Ramadan period to pray for the progress, development, and peaceful coexistence of Bauchi State and the country at large.”
The adjusted hours take effect immediately from the start of Ramadan and will continue until the end of the fasting month.
The governor’s approval reflects a common practice in many northern Nigerian states during Ramadan.
